The Maltese Islands, situated in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, are renowned for their pyrotechnical techniques and fireworks displays. Maltese fireworks enthusiasts are aware that there are some 30 licensed fireworks factories in Malta, the majority of which are owned by non-profitable organisations like local band clubs. Malta hosts no fireworks trade associations, or other such entities except for the Malta Fireworks Association, whose sole role is to serve as a median between government and its respective members. Also, since there is no serious technical research in fireworks to speak of, the level of knowledge and information remains much the same year after year. For this reason the production methods are for most part similar to those that existed decades ago.

The Malta Fireworks Festival can serve as a stepping stone for the Maltese pyro-technicians to focus on foreign fireworks display setups, discuss their impact on the spectators, and most important, understand the methodology and procedures adopted. Malta is very well renowned for its pyrotechnical displays and it competes very well with the levels achieved by foreign pyro-technicians. The only drawback is that the Maltese Fireworks displays lack professional presentation - mostly related to the lack of adequate firing equipment. FireOne has been specifically introduced in Malta to enhance the local product vis-a-vis fireworks displays presentation and choreography.

One must keep in mind that the Maltese fireworks techniques are practically non existent in fireworks factories overseas. The only two regions which somehow have vaguely similar techniques are parts of Spain and the southern part of Sicily. This proves that the Maltese techniques are not well known. Furthermore, one should also note that wherever the Maltese pyro-technicians have competed with other overseas manufacturers, the Maltese were always dominant with their displays. Thus, it stands to reason that the Maltese have achieved a high level of professionalism in their pyrotechnical displays and therefore, one should encourage and boost such an art.
